The number of scholarship opportunities continues to grow for community college students. Phi Theta Kappa members are leaders on college campuses both scholastically and in terms of campus and community involvement, making them excellent candidates for scholarships. Phi Theta Kappa Distinguished Achievement Scholarship

A varying number of renewable scholarships ranging from $4,000 to $12,000 per year. A minimum 3.25 GPA and 24 transferable credit hours are required. Students with previous bachelors' degrees are not eligible. Recipients must enroll as a full-time student at Austin College immediately following attendance at a two-year college. Preference will be given to applicants with significant participation in Phi Theta Kappa.

Baylor University - Waco, Texas

Baylor Transfer Scholarship

An unlimited number of $4000 and $5500 per year scholarships are available. Part-time students and students with previous bachelor's degrees are not eligible. The scholarship is renewable for a second year if a minimum cumulative Baylor grade point average is maintained. Eligible applicants in good standing of Phi Theta Kappa will also receive an additional $1000 per year incentive scholarship. Documentation of Phi Theta Kappa membership is required.

Howard Payne University - Brownwood, Texas

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Scholarship

The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is awarded to active members of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society who are planning to transfer to Howard Payne University. Up to ten scholarships are available to be awarded each academic year.

The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is awarded in lieu of the Transfer Academic Scholarship at any level and cannot be received in combination with any of the above mentioned Transfer Scholarships. The amount of scholarship award is $5,000 or $2,500.00 per semester and applies to tuition only. The scholarship is available for a maximum of six long consecutive semesters and cannot be used during summer sessions or mini-terms.

Full-time enrollment is required and a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.50 is required to continue the award. Verification of PTK membership must be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid prior to the start of the semester upon which the student in entering Howard Payne University.

Academy Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship

A varying number of renewable $1000 per semester scholarships. A minimum 3.25 GPA and 60 credit hours are required. Non-U.S. citizens, part-time students, and students with previous bachelors' degrees are not eligible. The student must major in Academy of Freedom Honors Program. Reference form from a Phi Theta Kappa advisor is required.

Hatton W. Sumners Foundation Scholarship

A varying number of renewable $4500 per semester scholarships. A minimum 3.25 GPA and 60 credit hours are required. Non-U.S. citizens, part-time students, and students with previous bachelors' degrees are not eligible. The student must major in Academy of Freedom Honors Program.

Northwood University - Cedar Hill, Texas

Freedom Transfer Scholarship

An unlimited number of renewable $6000 per year scholarships. A minimum 3.5 GPA and 24 credit hours are required. Part-time students and students with previous bachelors' degrees are not eligible.

Free-Enterprise Transfer Scholarship

An unlimited number of renewable $5000 per year scholarships. A GPA of 3.0 - 3.49 and a minimum of 24 credit hours are required. Part-time students and students with previous bachelors' degrees are not eligible.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

An unlimited number of renewable $500 per year scholarships. A minimum 3.5 GPA and an A.A., A.S., or A.A.S. degree are required. Part-time students and students with previous bachelors' degrees are not eligible. The student must enroll immediately following two-year college. The student must submit written proof of Phi Theta Kappa membership.

Southern Methodist University

The following merit scholarships are exclusively designed for qualifying transfer students. All require a minimum of 50 transferable hours and at least a 3.5. cumulative transferable GPA, although the better scholarships require a 3.7 cumulative transferable GPA.

The PTK scholarship is the only scholarship that requires a special application form, as it requires an advisor's signature. The application for admission serves as the scholarship application for all other scholarships.

Dallas-Area Community College Full Tuition Scholarship

Ten (10) full-tuition scholarships for up to five terms for students transferring from Dallas, Tarrant, or Collin County community college districts and completing their admission application by April 1. This scholarship is for Fall-term entrants only. Applicants must complete at least 50 transferable credit hours with a minimum 3.7 transferable GPA, and submit an essay and 2-3 letters of recommendation. Renewable if full-time enrollment and a 3.0 GPA are maintained. Candidates are selected and interviewed individually by University committee.

Deadline: All application materials, including transcripts, must be received by April 1. Final transcript due by May 15

Honor Transfer Half Tuition Scholarship

Half-tuition for up to five terms for students transferring from two- or four-year institutions that have completed at least 50 transferable credit hours with a minimum 3.7 transferable GPA. Fall- and spring-term entrants are eligible. Renewable if full-time enrollment and 3.0 GPA are maintained. All students who qualify and have been admitted to the University will automatically be considered for the scholarship.

Deadline: April 1 for fall entry or November 1 for spring entry

Community College Scholarship

$1,500 per term for up to five terms for students transferring from two- or four-year institutions that have completed at least 50 transferable credit hours with a minimum 3.5 transferable GPA. Fall- and spring-term entrants are eligible. Renewable if full-time enrollment and 3.0 GPA are maintained. All students who qualify and have been admitted to the University will automatically be considered for the scholarship.

Deadline: April 1 for fall entry or November 1 for spring entry

Phi Theta Kappa Supplemental Transfer Scholarship

Thirty renewable (20 awards are granted in fall; 10 awards are granted in spring) $2000 per year to be used as a supplemental scholarship to the Honor Transfer Scholarship, or the Community College Scholarship. Only applicants who have been an active member of Phi Theta Kappa for at least one year at their current two-year college will be considered. A minimum 3.5 GPA and 50 transferable credit hours are required. The student must include the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Scholarship application form and two letters of recommendation from academic sources.

Students awarded the Phi Theta Kappa Transfer scholarship agree to become an active member of the Southern Methodist University PTK Omega of Texas Alumni Chapter.  This entails participating in the following activities: 

  • One monthly meeting (minimum of three meetings per semester)
  • One fund raising activity per semester
  • One on-campus event (lectures, participation in other campus organizations) per semester
  • One off-campus event (community events; recruiting efforts with the Transfer Admission office) per semester

Texas A & M University - Commerce

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Students must have a minimum of 45 hours of transferable college credit, 3.0 GPA, and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. This scholarship is valued at $6,000. Scholarship applies $1,000 towards tuition and fees per semester and $500 towards on-campus housing costs per semester.

Scholarship is renewable each semester for a maximum of four semesters (fall and spring) for students who maintain a semester 3.0 GPA or higher for at least 15 hours of coursework, and complete the active membership requirements for the Pi of Texas Alumni each semester at A&M-Commerce. Out-of-state and International scholarship recipients are eligible to receive a non-resident tuition waiver.

Recipients must complete the following active membership requirements for the Pi of Texas Alumni Association at A&M-Commerce:

  • Attend 1 meeting per month;
  • Attend/participate in a minimum of 3 fundraisers per semester;
  • Attend/participate in a minimum of 2 "culture" activities per semester;
  • Attend/participate in a minimum of 1 committee per semester;
  • Attend/participate in a minimum of 1 Honors Topic event each semester.

Phi Theta Kappa All-USA Academic Scholarship

In addition to the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship, students who are nominated for the All-USA Academic Team and has a minimum GPA of 3.5 will receive an additional $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 toward tuition and fees for four (4) semesters-fall and spring.)

The student must meet all requirements for the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship as well as submit documentation of designation as a nominee for the All-USA Academic Team. For renewal, the student must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 on 15 hours of coursework each semester and be an active member of the Pi of Texas Alumni Association.

Clifford D. Wood Scholarship

In addition to the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship, one $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 toward tuition and fees for four (4) semesters-fall and spring) is available on a competitive basis. Students must have a minimum of 45 hours of transferable college credit, a minimum GPA of 3.5, and be a member of Phi Theta Kappa.

Students must complete the Clifford D. Wood-Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship application, provide two (2) letters of recommendation (one must be from a Phi Theta Kappa chapter advisor), and show outstanding service to Phi Theta Kappa.

For renewal, the student must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA on 15 hours of coursework each semester and be an active member of the Pi of Texas Alumni Association.To request an application, you must contact the Primary Advisor for the Pi of Texas Alumni Association at Candace_Eldridge@tamu-commerce.edu.

Mary L. Hood Graduate Phi Theta Kappa Graduate Scholarship

One $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 toward tuition and fees for four (4) semesters-fall and spring) is available on a competitive basis. The student must be fully admitted to the Graduate School at A&M-Commerce to apply for this scholarship.

Students must complete the Dr. Mary L. Hood-Phi Theta Kappa Graduate Student Scholarship application, provide two (2) letters of recommendation, show outstanding service to his/her Phi Theta Kappa community college chapter and University Alumni Association, and received a minimum 3.5 GPA on graduate coursework. For renewal, the student must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA on 9 hours of coursework each semester and be an active member of the Pi of Texas Alumni Association.

Texas Christian University

Phi Theta Kappa/Transfer Scholarships

A varying number of renewable $5,750 per year scholarships. A minimum 3.25 GPA and 27 credit hours are required for consideration. Renewal is based on the above standards at TCU. Any work not taken at TCU will not be factored in to the required hours and GPA. Part-time students and students with previous bachelor's degrees are not eligible.

Application fee will be waived for members who are applying for admission. Please check box that you are a PTK member and include your member number on your resume.

Chancellor's Scholarship

Five renewable full tuition per year scholarships. A competitive GPA and an A.A. or A.S. degree are required. Part-time students and students with previous bachelors' degrees are not eligible.

Texas Wesleyan University

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

A varying number of renewable $3100-$4100 per year scholarships. A minimum 3.0 GPA and 45 credit hours are required. Non-U.S. citizens are eligible to attend full-time. Students with previous bachelors' degrees are not eligible. Part-time students will be awarded in accordance with the number of hours taken.

The student must enroll immediately following two-year college. A recipient of this scholarship may not qualify for either Transfer Scholarships or Blue and Gold Awards. Phi Theta Kappa All-USA nominees may also apply for Excellence Awards of up to half of tuition prior to April 1.

Engineering and Computer Science Phi Theta Kappa Award

A varying number of $1000 scholarships are awarded each semester to transferring Phi Theta Kappa members who are admitted and enroll in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. The candidates must have demonstrated strong scholastic achievements, and must have earned at least 42 transferable credit hours. The scholarship is renewable each semester for a total of 4 semesters if a minimum 3.0 GPA and full-time status (12 or more credit hours) are maintained. Additionally, the recipient must continue to be enrolled and make progress towards an undergraduate degree offered by the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering & Computer Science. Non-U.S. citizens, part-time students and students with previous bachelor's degrees are not eligible.

Transfer Presidential Scholarship

A varying number of $2,000 per year scholarships available. Student must be accepted for admission, be an incoming junior/community college student who has completed four regular semesters as a full-time student or has completed 59 hours. Student must also enroll as a full-time student at University of Texas Tyler and have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on all Junior/community college course work. The Scholarship is granted yearly for fall and spring terms only.
